Paying Attention

susandennisAlthough it is a simple thing to do, I am always always impressed when I mention a business and am contacted either with a comment here or directly by someone from that business.
If I owned Acme's Best Widgets, you can be darned sure that at least once a day and probably 4 times a day, I'd be trolling every search engine for any mention of ABW. And I'd follow up. It would, I suspect, take maybe 5 minutes a day.
When I am the recipient of that 5 minutes, I'm always so tickled and impressed. I've had it happen when I'm mentioned a business favorably and when I've bitched an moaned. I've had it happened with small companies and large. (The latest, an maybe most impressive, example of a large company contacting me after a bitch was a representative from Sprint who left an offer for help and direct email address in the comment to the entry, for all to see. The Perfect way to do it.)
I love this. I think it is so smart and so sharp. I've seen more and more of it recently and I hope it continues and becomes more and more prevalent. It's always been very personal, thoughtful and on point. (Part of me also wonders why someone hasn't created an used a bot to scarf up mentions and spew out junk mail thank you's. Hopefully, no one will get the idea from here since I'm putting it in tiny type.)
One non-LJ blog I read daily, recently described a major tale of woe involving PayPal and Apple. Today, he he had a great post about being contacted by an executive of PayPal.
And my own little thrill today was getting a direct Tweet from Cali Lewis. Cali is the star and half the heart of GeekBrief.TV. I watch her energetic daily shorts on technology and bacon religiously. spiritgirl and, clearly, Cali avails herself of one of the Twitter tools that lets you monitor keywords.
