I went back to Sylark Cafe for brunch this morning. And it was heaven. It's a wonderfully comfortable spot that is easy to get to and has parking. But, mainly, they have the best bloody mary in town. I usually get their special but this morning it didn't look great so I got their eggs benedict. I specified softly poached and extra crispy on potatoes. I got both. It was all perfection. On the way home, I noticed that the new Macrina Bakery was open. They just opened a new location just down the street - across the street, actually, from Krispy Kreme! I first heard of this place on The Food Network. Someone was doing a site visit and it looked like so much fun. I had read they were opening up in my 'hood and was delighted to see they were open. Not only did they take over a building that had been vacant for a long time, but they made it better than good. So I loaded up on treats. Two savory - for dinner tonight or lunch tomorrow. And two sweet. In retrospect, it's a damn good thing I was full or I might have cleaned them out.
They are fun. I had my favorite t-shirt on with this confused cyclops and the woman behind the counter took one look at me and said "Threadless?" Sharp.
Now the rest of the day will be devoted to baseball and some work work that I think I'll go ahead and do instead of waiting until tomorrow.
