Big Day Here
Jul. 27th, 2002 09:09 amEvery year Seattle has a big, beautiful parade at night in the Summer. They kindly wind the parade through town and end it right in my front yard! Tonight is the night of the parade. It's always very exciting. Plus, tonight, Turner Construction - the folks who built my new football stadium - is celebrating their 100th anniversary at the stadium and, at 10 p.m., will be having fireworks. It's so nice of everyone to provide me with all this entertainment.
They have already set up some cones and 1 porta potty in the parking lot. For the past few years, while the stadium was under construction, the parade really ended before it got here. This year it's supposed to come all the way. I particularly love the bands. The University of Washington Alumni Band is the best. It is huge and made up of people from early 20's through late 60's and they are all in jeans with yellow t-shirts. But, the most amazing thing about them is that after marching in the entire parade (about 3 miles), when they get here, they play with such energy it's like they just started. And, they generally, hang around and play a lot of encore numbers in my parking lot.
Plus, there is a Mariners game at 1 (the Mariners stadium is down the block from here). It's going to be action central today in the 'hood! Camera is ready. Maybe I can get that panoramic shot better today.

Date: 2002-07-27 09:58 am (UTC)Seattle is much the same. And living in the center of it and being able to watch it all from my living room is a real treat. It always cracks me up when people in this condo bitch about city noise. This part of the city is 100 years old. The condo's were carved out of a railroad warehouse 10 years ago. Did they buy their unit on the one day when the town was in 'shhhh' mode????
