whee doggies!
Oct. 23rd, 2008 01:57 pmYesterday I had next to no work. Today, I am heads down in stuff. They are running a patch now and took the systems I use down for an hour or I would not have gotten lunch and you would not be reading this!
I don't mind at all and my paycheck really will be happy. I remember my boss telling me when he hired me that the workflow will often be feast or famine. Truer words were never spoken.
I just flashed on the fact that a week from tomorrow, I will have had this job for 3 years. And a little mini record. Since I left IBM after being there 15 years, I worked for a PR firm for 4 months, for myself for 18 months, for Microsoft for 2.5 years, for startup #1 for 2 years, for startup #2 for 2.5 years and then for Dave the Doodoo for 18 months and then I landed this gig. That's a whole lotta bouncy bouncy.
And kind of fun when I think about how when I started out in life, I was told by everyone that mattered that as as woman, my options were really limited. I'd better find one good company and stick with it cause after 40, I'd be toast. I was 45 when I left IBM. I totally heart that I got to live in these times. The future might be interesting but the past is clearly not for me. I am of the now and grateful.

In Seattle (at least downtown) this time of year we get the only bugs we see all year. We get those big, fat stupid flies that you can just about kill with a snide remark. We don't get a lot and after a few weeks they disappear. They have never bothered me - at least not enough to shut the door to the terrace or get a screen. But this year they are a bonus.
Travis and Betty are on the job. Betty never paid much attention to them before and this time last year, Everything was an adventure for Travis... the flies were as exciting as the carpet, the bedcovers, the fish room... But this year, the two of them crack me up. A fly will come in and sit and they will stalk and then one of them will catch him and the other one will try to steal it. I need to break out the camcorder.
No end to the thrills around here.
Time to get back to work.
