And...

So after swapping numerous emails with the credit union, I've learned that deposits over $5,000 are held for 7 days and there isn't a thing in the world I can do about it. Doesn't matter how much money I have in my accounts. Doesn't matter if it's deposited in person, in the mail or via an ATM - for 7 days, I have no access to that money. Honestly, I think this sucks. As a practical matter, it makes no difference to me. But the principle bites the big one in my book.

Last night I went to McDonalds and got one of their adult happy meals with the step counter. I've always liked their salads (and most everything else. I like McDonalds.) but the step counter is really keeping me amused today. It's 11:30 and I've now clocked 2,570 steps today.

I finished up the butler book about Diana. I did finally get weary of him - about the time I got to the end so it worked out fine. The library sent me email that I now have three books waiting. A book on marketing that Jim Carson mentioned not long ago, a book of afghan patters and a novel. I'm stopping there on my way home to pick up my nice little bundle.

I read in the paper this morning that Microsoft is going to discontinue paying for bus passes for contractors. That gravy train is pulling into the station. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. As a contractor, Microsoft is still a pretty spectacular place to work. Heck, as an employee it was pretty good, too. There are lots of nice, free benefits. I can't complain.

My current pass expires at the same time as my contract. So that kind of works out anyway.

thankfully they're not equipped to question my taste here ...

and that policy is pretty sucky ... big commercial banks have a policy they tell everyone about and another policy for their well-established customers--last summer i was depositing big honkin' checks and withdrawing next day ... but this was at wells fargo.

Having worked in banking, I'd say that sounds about right. The exact amount and number of days will vary from one financial institution to the next. That's actually a fairly generous policy compared to what many banks do, and especially compared to what the law allows.

Bus Passes, Library books, Money

-Bus Passes
This is really interesting. I learned about it on the Seattle community a couple of weeks ago and asked my husband if it applied to him. He checked with his boss people and found out that yeah thats the case. Even better the bosses didnt have a clue about it till brought it up and they had to research it.

I'm torn on the issue, on one hand I dont think its the big Ms responsibility to give the contractors bus passes, I do think it is going to cause problems for them as more orange badges (like my husband) drive in .

-Library Books
I was just at the Library again. Funny how crowded it still is. I'm really glad that I wasnt trying to get research done or anything. I also think that getting down from the Reading room to the exit is a pain in the ass.

-Money
The money thing sucks big ones.

You are right, Microsoft does go above and beyond. What I'd like to see is that his company steps in and buys the passes. After all it was part of his benefits package. I doubt that will happen.

I'm sure the library will get less crowded. But i bet the self checkout works well for you tonight. It was very smooth for me.

I agree that the seven-day hold bites it. It's another neat way for the banks to hold the money and pay out nothing. Nice for them.

I'm not cynical, though.

I have one of those McDonald's pedometers too. It's amazing...get one of those babies and you'll immediately realize that your living space is two or three times as big as you thought pre-pedometer. Seriously, it says our hallway is 23 steps long. Funny, I thought it was maybe ten feet.
But it sure is easy to get a LOT of exercise with one of those things :)

I like their fish fillet sandwiches. And the orange drink.

And then I saw SuperSize Me. A documentary movie.

Golly.
