Is it possible that local TV news people are paid by the cliché? Maybe a quota system with bonuses? If so, nearly every single one of our local TV news people (and we have four local stations that do news)... are raking in the dough.

It seems to me that the sports folks really had the lock on using (I'd say over using but I think that would be redundant again) clichés., but it seems their territory is being usurped...

And, I suspect they all get a fat prize for the most insipid puns they can use without taking a breath. Or maybe it's just anything that doesn't require they use a brain cell.

The sports announcers have been the cliche champions for many, many years. But you're right: the general newscasters are rapidly catching up.

Which is why I don't generally watch TV news. I watch in order to get the weather, which has better graphics than I've found online.

...and almost as many clichés per minute as the sports.

Hmmmm. You're right. And that hadn't penetrated, I suppose because the sports types annoy me and the weather folks generally don't. But you're right: they are as cliche-ridden as anybody.
