It seems like such luxury to have 3 days off. Especially since with my current contract job, I know exactly how much one of them costs. So on day 1, I slept in. I never ever ever do that but I did today. Until 7:15. Betty and Jake seemed to think I was dead and that they have special cat powers to raise me from the dead. They worked hard and are now, of course, napping in exhaustion.
And I did not walk this morning. Yet. The Mariner game is on at 10 and I think after the game, I'm going to walk up to the library and see if any of now 9 books that they have told me to come get are actually there. Then I may do a bit of a wander on the way home.
My favorite festival has been canceled this year. Seattle is a festival/fair town. There are street fairs all over town in the Spring and early Summer. There used to be even more than there are now. When I first moved to town, I rarely missed one. I'd figure out the right bus and go explore the fair and the neighborhood. It was a great way to learn the town.
But, I've gotten lazy. On Memorial Day weekend there is a huge deal over at Seattle Center (the city park that has the Space Needle and the Experience Music Project). It's music and crafts and it's a big fucking deal. Too big. I quit that one a long time ago - just too many people. But, also on Memorial Day weekend - Sunday and Monday - Pike Place Market had the perfect street fair. Because the Folklife festival at the Center drew the bigger crowd, the Market festival was easy to maneuver and fun.
But, alas, this year the Pike Place Market Festival has gone missing. Just as well, I'm a total sucker for the wonderful crafts in every single booth and I'd spend too much money.
What the Fox??? My Mom was all in quandary about today. The Mariner game is on Fox - one of the few Mariner games she actually gets to see on TV - and she has the tennis to watch (she was the Oklahoma State Women's Single Champion four years running and still watches as much tennis as she can find on TV and would run off with Andy Roddick in a heartbeat if she could figure out how). This morning, she finds out that Fox is running car races and there's not tennis on TV. She loves Charleston, fortunately, because living at the end-of-the-road small town does have it's drawbacks. She's not happy about this TV sports situation today, though. [NEW NEWS: turns out she read the TV listings wrong and found the tennis. I wonder if she's looking the Fox sports channel about the racing... but I'm staying out of it. She can listen to the Mariner game on the PC if she wants. Appologies to Charleston.]
Before the game there is a trip down to the dumpster and these sad house plants are screaming for water...

sigh.
