Is it absolutely necessary to preempt the baseball game with a 30 minute announcement of Ronald Regan's death? I mean, the game is now. And, thankthelord, he is not. We had to suffer under his regime and now he's preventing me from seeing the Mariners lose another game??? Will he not be just as dead in 8 more innings???????

My best Ronald Regan memory is when I was the marketing director for a small performing arts theater in Charlotte, NC. Mary Travers was in town for a show. I had to pick her up at the airport and get her to the theater. She was not exactly friendly. But, in that job, I found that lots of performers had disagreeable off-stage personalities. Once at the theater, she was met by one of the guys who always got to her gigs a day ahead of time to make sure all was fine. He said about 2 words to him and she bit his head right off. "Wow, you seem to be in a mood," he said as he was backing out the door...

"My 40th birthday is next week and they just fucking re-elected Regan, what in the hell do you expect????!"

It was a life changing moment for me. She did put on a wonderful concert, however.

I'm reminded of Dorothy Parker's comment whe informed of Calvin Coolidges' demise:

'How could they tell?'

As I noted in another forum, deification of just-deceased ex-presidents is standard. And of course they've had this stuff all prepared for years -- probably since the moment he left office.

I note that the Mariners did not, in fact, lose. Which only makes it the more annoying that they didn't let you watch.
