[livejournal.com profile] miss_hand today talks about her mother stripping down to her bra to cool off when she came in from grocery shopping... I can remember.

My Mom played tennis always. You know those growing up years when you parents can embarrass you just be breathing? Well, we spent most of mine in this one house in North Carolina. It was a long ranch number. The carport was at one end. You came in through the family room/tv room/kids hang out room past the laundry room through the rest of the house to the bedrooms which were at the other end and my parents' room which was at the very end.

My Mom used to come in dripping from playing tennis and start stripping immediately. She was usually down to her bra and panties by the time she got to the laundry room and was buck naked from there to the bedroom. And the bedroom was not always the next stop. A glass of water in the kitchen... check the mail... note that one or all of us had, once again, neglected to clean our rooms and remind us sternly...

All on the way to the shower.

She tried not to do it when the maid was there or when we had friends over. She tried - but not always successfully. Someone said that the TV show Malcolm in the Middle had a similar scene, but My Mom was the Naked Queen. She didn't live to embarrass us, it was just a pleasant side effect of her every day life.

That's right! Malcolm in the Middle. Have you watched it. I LOVE the mother so much - and frankly, she doens't seem all that outrageous to me.

I tell all the new hires that I am a cross between the Mom from Malcolm and Red from That 70's Show.

Sets things off on the right foot.

Both of you have inspired me to write up my own beat the heat stories.

Thank you both for making me laugh. I guess I am getting out of my depressed state over my friend and I feel like posting again.

One of my friends, John (funny I remember his phone number but not his second name, it's in the UK 01480 680 109), used to tell me to call before I dropped by if I was cycling round there so that he could warn his wife Carol in case she wanted to put some clothes on. I think a lot more people wander around the house in the all together than is generally known :D
