One of the n-kinds--of-people-in-this-world categories has to be chapstick. I guess it could be extended to include lipstick and lip balm. I am one of the kinds that is addicted. I have a tube in every bag, every purse, every pocket, on my desk at home and work, by the tv, by the bed and in a few other assorted places. When it's on sale, I hord. I don't like flavors - I can handle a menthol in an emergency - but give me the old, standard, waxy stick and I'm a happy camper.

On TV, in movies and in the books I read, people are always getting kidnapped and being held hostage with their hands tied for days, etc. This scenario never fails to make my lips hurt. No access to any chapstick and immediately the need for it grows to crisis proportions. And I know people who never ever use the stuff at all. I admire that kind of lip toughness - they are saving a bundle in cash and stress.

This comes to mind just now because my desk chapstick is getting low. I replaced it with my relatively fresh backpack chapstick but I must remember to check the motherload when I get home and make sure I've got a big enough stash.

And, you thought you had problems... Ha!

Fellow chapstick nut.

I too hoard chapstick. If I find one I like, I buy it. Right now my favorites are: Natural Ice (cherry), Burt's beeswax lip balm (not exactly my favorite - but it's OK), and Alba Sienna Terra Tints. I have all three in my pants pocket.

I keep several in my purse. One at my desk, one on the bedstand, one in the bathroom, one in the living room, and one in the back room.

I keep a couple in each winter coat pocket (never want to be caught in the winter weather without lip balm!).

So, I guess I have an addiction?

I love the menthol in the Natural Ice lip balms - believe me, that feels so nice in the winter (about the only thing).

I'm surprised I don't have all the signs.

I have been known to get flavored ones - but not too often. I do like the Lipsmackers Watermelon scented one though.

And I do like the lightly tented ones - so I don't have to keep reapplying lipstick during my busy day.

Huh. I just keep a little pot of gloss at work, and one at home.

And a stick in the car. Maybe I'm more addicted than I know?

Me too! I have 500 tubes of chapstick (and it has to be chapstick- no other brand will do) - one in every coat pocket, in the car, in my desk, in the kitchen, beside my bed (can't sleep without it)...

When I watch survivor it is all I think about (they need chapstick) and if I think about street people and having no money (need chapstick!) - it really struck in Margaret Atwood's "A handmaid's tale" - when she has the relationship with the man/husband (ever read it?) - all she asks for is moisturizer.
