Pissy Day

I have this theory that says the only reason people get pissy is because they believe (rightly or wrongly) that they are not being given the respect they deserve. When this happens, generally, it causes a severe case of ego-itis.

Everyone at work today had a severe case of ego-itis. I mean everyone, me included. Well, everyone but my friend, BJ, who seems curiously imune.

My day started early on with this little perky number IM'ing me that she just couldn't find the right size logo on the intranet for her powerpoint slide and would I find it for her and put it on the slide. Translation - I'm too busy to learn how to use the tools to do my job and would much rather just have you act as my personal secretary.

Because I am in no way sympathetic or at all kind, I slapped her fucking logo on the stupid slide and sent it back to her telling her that all I did was copy it from the intranet page called "LOGOS" and put it on the slide and she could size it any way she wanted to by dragging on the corners. I did not add 'you stupid dilettante' but I think the tone of my note said it just the same.

But I wasn't the only one being pissy today. As I said, everyone but BJ was, too. It must be National Pissy Day and, once more, I was left off the memo.

Anyone who works in an office should know how to use Excel. Powerpoint, Word. And know the basics of html. I too am very irritated by those who can't operate the basic tools of the trade. Instead they count on us. Yet we get no extra stipends for having the sense to learn these things which really aren't all that difficult.

I'd be pissy too. Actually I like being pissy from time to time.

Well, then, I think it's particularly cruel to have National Pissy Day while you are on vacation! We must speak to someone about this... when we're both good and pissy!

I think it must be. I've got so many private rants in my journal today!

(Private because they're that annoyed. I have had people go to lunch without status-updating a two-hour-resolution-time bug - that they had been working on for 1:45 - I have had bizarre bugs, I have had a coworker mock me for thinking an entire site being down was urgent enough to defer discussing a planned enhancement, I have....)

Oh, you get the idea. It's just National Pissy Day, that's for sure.

That really makes me feel better. It gives me the feeling that it's not my fault and that helps.
