Something I did in the past couple of days invited some piece of shit to scatter itself all over my computer. I tried to get rid of it with ad sweepers - a couple of them but this bugger was nasty. Popping up web pages at will and generally just annoying the heck out of me. Then I got more rabid about sweeping and finally swept away my ability to get email.

But, since the last time this happened and I had to use the XP rollback feature and didn't have a good recent restore point, I've been religiously making a restore point every Saturday morning. I just restored back to last Saturday and the world is smelling nice again. Whew.

My Mom is on Windows 2000, sans rollback but I bought her Norton's GoBack and my brother is going to install it July 4th weekend when he is there visiting. It will be nice to be able to roll her back if I need to.

My neighbor, Sherry, called me when I got home and asked me to come down 'and tell me it's going to be ok'. Her computer was frozen at the Windows 98 screen. After a few serious words about how I was seriously questioning all friendships with people using Windows 98 and managed to procure a promise that she is going to buy a new computer and right away with Windows XP. This enabled me to proceed.

The good news was that she knew what she was doing when it blew. McAfee scan. I was able to step through the boot up and skip the antivirus and got her back going. Deleted McAfee and rebooted with no problem. She was very grateful. Homemade brownie grateful. Works for me.

Which scanners did you use? I've had to resort to both adaware and spybot search & destroy. Spybot seems to pick up more, though there is some stuff unique to each. Its innoculation really hates the tracking the Seattle paper uses.

It's somewhat frustrating to think my computer is 40x more powerful than the one I had ten years ago, but I'm burdoning it with anti-virus, ad filtering, firewall, spyware, and registry tracking software, so it's probably only 5x faster ;-p

I use McAfee, too, with Windows ME. It's all my pc will handle I think.

The only thing that I do miss from Windows World is GoBack. What a great software program...saved my butt more times than I can tell you. I would love it if there was a version (or a similar software program) for the Mac.
