Carbonite provides an excellent backup service. It is totally painless and bullet proof. I've paid them about $50 a year for the past 4 years to back up my work computer.
Happily, I rarely have any need for interaction with their people because they have the must insulting, condescending, inefficient and slow customer service of any place I have ever encountered.
Last weekend, they sent me an email offering me a free month of service if I renewed now instead of November. I followed the links in their email and quickly hit the work of a lazy web developer and could go no more. On the error page was a notation that if I encountered the page, I should send email and gave the address. I did.
Today I got yet another of their horrible email responses. Not even a hint of apology, simply a long tedious form email about how my browser was set incorrectly and how I could fix my browser. The end of the email told me that once I did renew, they would manually add the month on.
The last line of the email asked me to share my opinion with their survey. Oh yeah baby. You want opinion? You got it.
Originally, I used their service on two computers but did not renew the other account when I first encountered their hubris. I've tried a couple of competitors and know I could do it manually but they product really is good. The last time I switched computers it saved me days and days of work and headache.
But, honestly, it won't take much for me to tell them to kiss my backed up ass.
