I left here this morning to go to the bank and order checks and then the library and then the grocery store.

I got to the bank. I figured it was best to get my initial check order from them directly. Plus I wanted to see about an ATM/debit card and maybe a credit card. The branch is tiny with maybe 5 or 6 people working there. I was immediately swooped up by Sultan who promised to take care of all my banking needs. And he did.

I filled out a million forms and gave him a whole bunch of numbers and ended up getting:

Line of credit overdraft protection
Debit/ATM card
Master card
checks
Money Market account

Then he introduced me to the branch manager who is a little firecracker. Theresa. She wanted to know what else they could do for me. I said that I had a little wad o' cash in a formerly high yield (and now really very medium yield) savings account at Capital One and I'd like her to better their interest rate so I could close that account and give the money to her.

Bless her heart she about popped a gut and came up with a very nice little CDish annuity thingamerole that pays way better. Moving the funds proved a little bit of a challenge as their transfer process takes eons to set up and even though I started the process last week, it will be next week or longer before it's approved. I have no checks or bill paying on the Capital One account. I told her I'd go home and call and see if there were any options. We have a plan B and she said she'd get all the paperwork ready and we can Do the Deed tomorrow.

So I blew off the library and grocery (I can do them tomorrow, too). And came home. Capital One will wire the money if I can fax them the authorization before 5 EDT. 1 hour. I made it. Theresa's going to pay the $20 fee. Whew.

I did not plan all that. But, I'm cool with it. Happy to find a better deal for my cash wad.

Oh and I have good credit. Sultan was more than a little impressed at the interest rate/approved limit that were immediately returned on the line of credit application. He said 'you must have some great credit! let me look at that credit score...' he said it more to himself than me. Then looking at the screen he said 'Wow!' It was funny. And nice. I have not always had good credit but now I have Wow credit and that's nice.

Turns out Endless Shoes is a Seattle company and further digging reveals it is an Amazon company! Interesting.

Not so interesting, UPS has lost my return. But, I think I know what happened. Turns out we had a substitute guy who also forgot to return the building key to the regular guy. Probably he's got my box deep in his truck somewhere and just hasn't gotten to it. I'm taking notes. It has a delivery date of 9/2 and on 9/3, I'm going to start making noise.

I have a ticket to tonight's baseball game. It's knitters' night and I got the ticket as part of a promotion. I went the first year and it was ok and has apparently grown since then. The seats are nearly farther away from the field as I am here. Baseball is just the backdrop. The real event is seeing what all the various knitting vendors have on display and for sale.

I will probably wander up there and get a hot dog for dinner and then go see the setup and maybe an inning or two. Or maybe three. What the heck.

They are laying carpet in my section of the hallway today. Are there any fumes more toxic smelling than carpet glue? And those guys have their face right in it all day in that confined area. Scott, the building manager told me yesterday that the carpet guys weren't too bright and it's no wonder. I'm surprised they have a brain cell left. Ugh!
