When my father died, I got there last and Mom handed me two typed pages stapled together and asked 'will you handle this?'

At the top of the top page was his and Mom's complete names and the complete names of their children and grandchildren. Under each name is: address, birthdate, social security number

Then there was a simple list of all of their bank accounts with approximate balances.

It was not fancy. It was not a spreadsheet. It was a simple list that made everything so much easier. It is now dog eared from use. It was wonderful when I was working with his estate. When Mom died, it was a 'Bible' again. I still use it. I had to check it the other day for the social security number of one of my nieces.

It's now 10 years old and for the past 10 years, nearly every time I've laid eyes on it, I've thanked Daddy once again.

This morning I finally made my own 'Daddy' list. I don't have children or grandchildren but I have lots of accounts and new ones and each of them have a website, userid and password.

When I die, my brother will be in charge. My sister will hassle him to bits. At least with this, his guns will be loaded.
