I think I first learned about this on TV - a news show. And it's wonderful.

Giving Anonymously is a website/service that lets you donate money anonymously.

They are a lot of reasons why I like to give money anonymously. I hate getting hounded by organizations for more. NPR and Public Television worked their way off my giving list years ago because of their stalking. Ditto with Dress for Success. Now I can donate anonymously!

But, even better, is that I can give money to people without embarrassing them. A modern day and way cheaper, John Beresford Tipton.

My first try at this failed. But I was so amazed at how hard Giving Anonymously tried. I wanted to give some cash to someone I don't know well but do know could really use a little boost. Giving Anonymously contacts the recipient first to ask permission (and verify the mailing address) which I think is wonderful. I would hate to give money to someone who would be offended. However, I did not have good contact information. I had an email address but no phone number and they tried and tried but never got a reply. I gave them the name of another recipient but they asked if they could keep trying my first choice for a few more days. I thought that was cool.

You might never hear anything but recipients are given the opportunity to leave a thank you note in voicemail and then Giving Anonymously sends it to you in email.

I am so lucky to be able to splurge on treats for myself nearly anytime I want but I so remember days when a found $50 saved my ass. It's great to be able to 'drop a dime' here and there to make someone else's day brighter. And Giving Anonymously makes that possible and so easy!
