susandennisI am delightedly surprised at how much computing power you can walk into a store and buy for $300. This little thing is really a tricked out pony.
One trick I'm loving is the touch pad which is one of those smart ones that lets you do mucho stuff without the buttons. It's taking some getting used to but it's making the transition from a touch screen a lot easier.
And the screen is so bright an sharp. The Lifebook's decline had me used to muddy. This is a trip.
Thanks to cloud computing things like Gmail, and my penchant for living with defaults, I've pretty much got everything set up and working. Nice.
The big PIA was the software for the Creative Zen. This little player suits me fine. It has a nice bookmarking system which is great for book reading which is what I mainly use it for. But, the software required (required because it is the only way to get the drivers for XP) is such a piece of shit that I thought at first this machine had a special smell feature. I finally managed to get the proper (undocumented) sequence of updates and installs done so the computer has the driver it needs to see the player. Not easy.
It will all be way easier with Windows7 but I think I'm going to wait until the October release before I update it. XP is annoying but I can live with it for a few more weeks.
It's a great little box for what I want in the bedroom. Small, zippy, uncomplaining.

The peppy weather people all predicted a weekend of rain. They are all lying sacks of shit. It dripped a half a shot glass worth early yesterday and again today and now the fucking sun looks like it is coming out again. At least it's cool.
I think it's cool enough for walking. My current plan is to piddle around a little more here in bed with the new computer and then shower, slap on my walking shoes and take the bus up to the other side of downtown and walk back to Boka for brunch. Then I need to make a quick stop at the Japanese grocery to get more yuca chips.
Then home for knitting and baseball and maybe a movie.
