I remember now why the bus pass (which is, apparently, gone forever) was a good idea... The fare is $2 each way and the bus driver does not give change. So I gotta come up with $2 in exact change twice a day - every day.

See, the problem is... I'm your classic case of cashless. I rarely use it. I don't even use checks. I pay all my bills online - most automagically. I charge everything else. At work, you can fund an account for lunch. You keep money in your account and then you just run your card key over the little reader and wham... your lunch is bought.

I generally keep about $30 in my wallet but it's generally the exact same $30 I put in there months ago. And, like right now, it's a 20 and a 10. Not good bus fodder.

I do all my banking with a credit union. They are in Portland. They have branches here but none even remotely convenient. Where in the hell am I going to get a load of small (not even necessarily unmarked) bills???? Geesh.

Maybe you could stop at a little market on the way home, buy something small with your $10?

(this is off topic, but I just finished watching "Love Actually" on a Netflix DVD...and thought of You immediately.

Does your transit system offer bus tokens for sale (Metro here does)? If so, buy a couple bags and keep those in your purse instead. Or find a bank somewhere, hand them $25.00 and get a roll of dollar coins to use.

You might even be able to buy the tokens online and have them shipped to you. :)

Today I bought a transponder for the toll bridge we now have to cross.
Very cool. Just drive through and it deducts the toll automatically.

It is a 50% savings, but also costs $2 so I thought of you You need a transponder for buses, too!! Just fill it up online. Why don't they have them for busses yet? Huh? I want to know.

We have those here in DC, we call them "smarttrip cards" and they work on both busses and the metrorail. Swipe it over the sensor and it deducts your fare. Tres cool. :)
