Radio Begging Begins Again
Oct. 5th, 2009 06:43 amEvery morning at 6 am (weekends, too) my radio turns on to the news brought to me by my National Public Radio station. Twice a year, the smart, sharp news and announcer people at that station morph into the most uninformed, annoying, whining, stupid people on earth and relentlessly fill every hour with insipid chatter begging for contributions.
It is a stupid system which must work like gangbusters because they keep doing it and it gets more annoying every time.
It started again this morning. And will continue for about a week and a half. Nothing like starting off each day pissed off.
I have developed a good work around, however. I pull out my Tweakers and fire up Public Radio Fan and pick one of the Morning Edition stations - today it was KJZZ in Phoenix.
Relief. For the rest of the pledge drive, I'll set it all up before I go to sleep so I barely need to wake up to fire it off.
I did, however, forget to fire off my keen sense of the obvious this morning. We have two NPR stations here and, it turns out, the other one is not having its begathon right now. So I just changed the channel on the radio. Doh
