Cracking the touch technology problems
Oct. 5th, 2009 07:42 pmMy new computer finally arrived and, of course, I was crazy busy with work all afternoon but finally, I got it all settled in and could play with the new computer.
It came in a giant box with a ton of those fucking packing peanuts, then a smaller box with an envelope around it and another box inside and FINALLY I got to the computer, the power cord, the brick and the battery. It also came with a few pages about the warranty and that's it! No safety software and no manual - this latter is fine by me. There is a hidden partition containing the recovery software. They have a little app to burn it off to DVD.
Soooo I pulled out my external CD/DVD drive and loaded it up with a blank DVD and hit 'start'. It wouldn't play. I tried several times. I tried different blank DVD's. I put in a recorded DVD and it worked fine. I burned an MP3 to a CD - no prob. But, the recovery app just would not recognize it.
Finally, I looked at the drive and DOH! it's a CD writer and DVD reader DOH!
I tried mapping the DVD (writer) drive on my desktop over the network but the app didn't like that either. Oh well. I'll get a cheap USB DVD writer - it does not need to be fast. I can't imagine using it much. But it will be good to have.
The new computer is nice. It feels really good. And it looks really pretty. It's Vista (64-bit which is weird, I think) but only until my Windows7 upgrade gets here.
