Adventures in Retail

susandennisIt was the day of our Costco adventure. My neighbors Ann and Ron - not Costco members - drive which is a treat for me. We do lunch and then shop, it's fun. Today we went to a barbecue place (Mac's) which is in the back of what used to be a diner (I'm not at all sure what it is now). The place is dark and grungy and seedy. But, the food was amazingly fabulous - and the service was great. So the grime did not matter at all. We decided it will be our regular pre-Costco lunch spot.
Ann and Ron had a list. I didn't even really need anything. So off they went and I just wandered slowly - without ever a cart - and looked at everything. It was really quite enjoyable. We met just before the checkout counters and were astounded to see NO lines. Not one. None. There were about 4 people checking out and about 4 checkers with nothing to do. I had never ever ever seen that at Costco. Never. It was a little creepy.
When we got in the car, Ann suggested we go to the Whole Foods which opens today over on the other side of downtown and we did and it was great fun. It's a pretty store. Smallish and nice and not too opening-day crazed.
All in all, an excellent fun outing.
Oh and I found Yuca chips - the good kind - at Whole foods!! I was quite excited about that.
Tomorrow is Chef Tom day. I need to give the kitchen a good tidy and wipe down.
