Real People
Jul. 12th, 2004 04:53 pmLately, like in the last couple of weeks, I have noticed some really interesting people.
The other day I was driving past the International District early on Sunday morning when no one was around and there, coming down the street were two very small, very elderly Asians - a man and a woman. Each in jaunty LL Bean outfits. Each pushing one of those wheely walkers. He was a bit ahead of her and when he got to the corner where he was going to turn, he just stopped and waited for her to catch up. It was really adorable.
Yesterday on my way to the bus, there was a guy sitting on the curb. He was a long tall black man with a nicely trimmed beard and short hair decked out in army fatigues but with high top black sneakers. He had one section of the newspaper and was reading it with glasses connected to a string around his neck. I wondered where the rest of the newspaper was among other things.
Today it seemed that everyone on the bus - both ways - who was not a regular was just really interesting to look at. Their outfits, their demeanor, their belongings...
It finally dawned on me that I watch so much television that I only see pretty people. (I don't watch reality shows.) When interesting ones come along they really are spectacular to see. I should whip out my camera but I'm usually just too busy trying not to stare.
