Ann and Ron won't be home for another two weeks. So between now and then I am going to be poised over the point of my sword, ready to fall on it. It's going to be a long fucking two weeks. I cannot believe I did such a stupid thing. I am going to meet the mail collector at the box - knowing that I will be asking him or her to do something illegal - I just have to try. Assuming that will fail, I'll spend two weeks writing a mea culpa letter to leave for their return wrapped around cash to cover their NSF fee. I know it's not the end of the world and no kittens will die because of this or wars break out but still it feels so fail and I hate that.

We have a lovely steady, chilly rain going here this morning. I just peeked at my brother's webcam and looking out the front of his shop window I can see it's raining there, too. Kind of weird to see it there and hear it here.

Betty is going through a snuggling phase. She does that. She'll pretty much ignore me for weeks and then, all of a sudden, I'm her new best friend. This started this time on Saturday night and I was quickly reminded that she was long overdue for a mani/pedi. Much to her dismay, she got one yesterday. Now when she kneads me, like she is doing right now, it's not a thousand needles.

Thanks to the bell on his collar, I can easily hear Travis playing catch and release in the hallway. Sometimes he does this with one of his toys. Sometimes he does this with invisible things. I can't see down the hall so I'm not sure which it is today but I can hear that it is getting quite the workout.

I have fewer than usual clues about work this week. I had a great visit with my friend from work, yesterday. She's worked for my boss for way longer than I have and knows way more of the inside skippy. What I learned from her left me not quite as hopeful for a nice outcome - more work or a new project - as I would have liked. She also confirmed my fears that, in fact, the way my boss fires people has been to give them so little work that they finally quit. I believe firmly and truly that he can and should run his business the way he wants and if that works best for him, then ok. Now that I have the info, it is up to me to use it wisely. I'm going to give it a few weeks and then, if no change from him then consider making some of my own.

One thing I'm pretty sure of is that sometime this week, I'll need to upgrade this work computer to Windows 7. It's XP now so it won't be pretty. There are a bunch of us in this boat. It looks like the Microsoft network (on which we all work) is going to require it by the end of October. The guy who handles all of the computer stuff for my boss is working on a plan. I'm just waiting to hear. I do have Carbonite on this machine and a list of apps and their origins so it won't be impossible, just tedious.
