LJ stuff

I hate LJ Cut.  Extra clicks are not my idea of fun.  So I set my friends' pages to ignore LJ Cut.  I mention this because [livejournal.com profile] melodysk has been, apparently, harboring the delusion that the stuff she tucks behind cuts is safe from my prying eyes.  Ha!  (The tricks for cut stuff can be found here.)

I don't do memes or those tricks, toys or tests that everyone is big on.  No value judgments there, I just elect to not include them in my journal. (And, I don't click on them - see paragraph #1 above.)

I do get peeved when people write obscure entries.  I shouldn't, it's their freakin' journal... but I do.  But people in glass houses.  This morning I got a comment from [livejournal.com profile] estis nicely and cleverly pointing out that one of my entries might have bordered on the obscure...  Bordered on???  Hell, I couldn't even get all the facts out of it and I knew the story.

Other stuff

Life without the internet would be soooooo hard.  The latest is pre-threaded needles.  Mom wants to hem some pants.  She can't see to thread the needle.  Her cleaning person told her she should go to Walmart and buy pre-threaded needles.  Mom thought she was just being mean because 1.  There is no such thing and 2.  The sewing stuff at Walmart is way in the back of the store.  Mom can't get back there easily.

Google found me a picture of pre-threaded needles (first search term tried, first item returned).  I slapped that picture into a note and told her they probably had them at Walgreens (which is a much easier store for her to get to and into and around in than Walmart).  She was shocked but now believes there is such a thing. She does not believe Walgreens will have them.

Note to self:  next time I'm there, thread needles.  Oh, wait, my brother will be there first and his wife would love to do something like that.

The dark side of summer...  I have taken very few pictures this summer because of light - everything has too much to too little.  Outside has too much.  Inside, I live in the dark in the summer.  I turn on a light only when absolutely necessary.  I select my clothes out of the drawers of closets by feel.  At night, the only light in the kitchen comes from the fridge if/when I open the door.  My only window faces east.  Unless we have a cloudy morning, I keep the blinds tightly drawn until the sun is at least overhead.  Around here life has far more light in the fall, winter and spring!

I am reading a book about an assassin who works for the US Government.  I read it for about an hour before I went to sleep last night.  This morning listening to NPR, a couple of times I've wondered why I hadn't heard anything about the latest bombing in Hebron - then I realize that that bombing was in the book and NPR is really not on the hook to report fictional news....

I really would like to get into the air conditioned car and drive to Target or Fred Meyer or somewhere big and bright and cool and full of stuff to buy.  BUT, #1 I don't need anything.  Well, I could probably use another power strip but I'm going to wait until I'm sure I need it before I go buy it.  And #2 I don't need to spend money on shit I don't need.  Really, I don't.

I think I'll go back to bed - under the ceiling fan - and see how my assassin is getting a long.

This is one I have to remember - I know it's out there but don't always think about it - I think it's great that people can skip the cuts, except, sometimes I cut things that might be spoilers. If I cut for "spam warning" then anyone who has cuts off has pretty much said they don't mind that anyway - but I have to keep in mind to put spoiler warnings at the top of posts for those who don't use the cuts! If the warning is only in the text of the cut, it doesn't do a lot of good. :)

Yeah - I know I did that with Spidey 2. I didn't really leave space, I just put a note at the top that said "If you are reading this without lj-cuts or via a direct link to the post, it has spoilers in it. Stop here if you don't want to see them." Which seemed reasonable. :)

I enjoy reading your journal a lot. Even though I'm usually not familiar with the tv programs, movies and sports you refer to I like the the way you express your pleasure or disappointment in what you're watching.

I LJ cut mainly for either bandwidth (photos) or memeage as I know it isn't everyones cuppa char :)

But, how could any system of pre-threading know how much thread would be enough?

By the way, I'm probably one of the big offenders in the obscure entry dept...sorry about that. I try to stay clear of memes and so forth, though.

Well, that was a pleasant surprise...thank YOU!
I had no idea my life was amazing. It doesn't seem so to me, at all. Boring, actually. Like today...weeding, mulching and probably having a bad argument with soemone who's due to arrive at my house any moment now. Not my idea of an exciting & pleasant life, I'll tell you.

But again, thanks, and I'm glad you read the journal.

PS, Your Mom is a card.

I don't use LJ cuts, but now I know more about them thanks to your link. LOL.

By the way, there is no such thing as too many power strips.

judicious lj-cuts can be good ...

I don't mind lj-cuts - they help those who are on dial-up (and I was on that not so long ago). However, I only use them when I have more than one picture at a time, or on the rare occasion I find a meme that I wish to publish (I think I've done about 3 or 4 memes, to date).

I'm with you on the obscure thing - thankfully, I'm wordy enough (read: blathery) that you're not likely to find anything obscure in my journal.

I'm also with you on the brightness thing - my apartment is naturally dark (living practically on the street, every curtain and blind is constantly drawn in the apartment) and there is rarely more than one light on at any time. Thankfully, due to the natural abilities of cats' eyes, the cats don't seem to mind. ;-)

And of course, your mom is always a hoot.
