Can operate pleasantly under stress
Jul. 22nd, 2004 02:39 pmI got an email this morning from a guy trolling for job candidates - he listed a bunch of program manager jobs - few of which I was qualified for and none of which I was interested in but one of this listed as a requirement:
- Can operate pleasantly under stress
I'm pretty sure that I can't operate pleasantly period but never under stress. It just tickled me. Next time I write a job description, I'm slapping that line into it...
"Please, could you see your way clear to fucking code that so that if fucking works this time?????!!!! Thanks ever so much!"

Work was heads down non stop today until 12:02 p.m. That's exactly the time that the the power to the computers and to the air conditioning quit in our little dev lab.
We spent 30 minutes with the usual 'your computer lose power? yeah, yours? any of the other offices? I don't know, let me check, nope, just us... etc.'
The we spent 30 minutes with the 'my it's quiet in here. fuck, how am I supposed to get this shit done without a computer?? Does your cellphone have solitaire? Any other games?'
Then I left. As it turns out the power came back on about 1:40 but without me. And today was our last day in that building. The end.

So... now I'm home and it is hot out and not quite so hot in here. I stopped on the way home and got some sushi for dinner which is chilling in the fridge. I should use this free time to pick up some of the crap around here and put away my tools and toys and extension cords from The Big TV project.
In fact, I think I will.</P>
