Danger Will Robinson!
Aug. 6th, 2002 08:44 amMy office is at the corner of First and King Street. I live across the street and half way down the block. I cross the intersection about a dozen times a day. Before I came to work here, I worked in the building kitty cornered from here. That makes more than 3 years of solid intersection monitoring.
I just read in the morning paper that this intersection is the most dangerous in all of Seattle. More accidents happen at this intersection than any other in town.
I think in the three years that I have been intimately involved in this intersection, I have seen maybe 2 accidents. Certainly no more and maybe not even that many. Quite the head scratcher, this news...

hmm . . .

I find this very interesting as well. I live on 5th and Blanchard in Belltown, and although I don't tend to see the accidents, I have heard at least three accidents out in that intersection in the four years I have lived here.
Of course, Belltown as a neighborhood does not have the best reputation when it comes to safety, traffic or otherwise. About two years ago a woman was raped and murdered in an alley a block and a half from here (I may have heard her scream from my open window); there was another murder a year or two before that in an apartment building about three blocks up 5th Avenue, and one year while I was watching Seafair from the roof of my building, I witnessed a drug deal behind the back door of Seattle - King County Public Health, which is across the alley from my building.
Oddly, I have never felt unsafe living here. And now that I think about it, the one neighborhood that has given me the creeps more times than any other is Pioneer Square . . .
