This morning's paper had an ad from Fry's for a portable air conditioner... It's the same model (different brand name) as Home Depot had last weekend. Home Depot $499. Frys' $549.

And, of course, today - at least here in Microsoftland - it is finally overcast and wonderfully cool.

I'm happy to say that my own little portable, after it's little spell of last Friday, has been cooling like the big boys. And we've had some evenings when that's been fairly critical and greatly appreciated...

Fry's claim to be cheap but mostly they are quite expensive compared to on-line or even shopping around. They only beat Circuit City and Good Guys and maybe sometimes Best Buy or CompUSA... but not always. They aren't the good deal they used to be. Warehouse service at retail prices.
