Great Set of Lungs
Aug. 2nd, 2004 08:21 amI talked to Mom earlier today and her voice sounded strong and said she felt good. But she also sounded pretty confused... "If I get out of here today I will have someone call you because I can't dial long distance from this phone." ??? If you are out of there why are you using that phone? Whatever.
Apparently the cardiologist had been in and told her that he wanted one more test and then she could go home. Except I think she isn't quite ready to go home.
Then just now I got a report from my sister-in-law that is more complete, more upbeat and more credible than my own. Dana says that Mom's cummadin is all screwed up so her blood is all wonky and she has the massive shakes. But her regular doctor is back in town so nothing is wrong with the world. She now believes she didn't have a heart attack on Sunday morning.
Her cardiologist says she needs a pulminary specialist. The only one Mom knows is the one her friend Della Jo used to go to and just loved to bits. But, sadly, Della Jo had to find a new one because the great one got license yanked for sexual misconduct. I suspect in the Mom/Della Jo crowd a little sexual misconduct would be a great marketing tool...

Date: 2004-08-02 08:39 am (UTC)I used to know a women (Patsy) who ran an old folks home, I used to drive their horse transporter so I was often round there on a Friday night to see who we were taking where. This was when I was cycling a lot too.
One Friday I was talking to Scott, her son, an she was busy with one of the old ladies (aka Nan, 101 and a bit creaky) when all of a sudden Patsy, the two nurses and Nan all started laughing then they took her to the elevator and Patsy came over. I asked what was the joke and she said Nan was being difficult about going in the bath but she said she'd go if I washed her back for her. I was a little surprised but Patsy said "You have to remember, they may be 101 on the outside but on the inside they're still 14".
I think when you are young you expect age makes a lot more difference than you do as you age. Not that it's possible to tell someone in their 20s that.
Anyway. Do you think it's the general stress that's causing the confusion? Perhaps she's not sleeping well in a strange environment? I'm on Warfarin (same thing as Coumadin but cheaper and actually the original name) and even if I stop taking it for a week it has no noticeable side effects. Did they say what they meant by "screwed up"? Mostly they keep the INR between 2.0 and 3.0, mine is at the low end around 2.1.

Date: 2004-08-02 09:28 am (UTC)She also takes about 2 and a half pharmacies of other stuff as well. So any symptom could have about 42 causes. Oh and then there's the cumulative affect of the couple of dozen strokes she's had over the past 10 years. Oh and my inability to handle it all very rationally...
