Rain - glorious rain!

Yesterday we had about 4 drops. This morning we had nearly 15 and they are promising more. Actually it was coming down enough from home to bus that I had to dig my umbrella out from the bottom of my bag. When I got to work it was just starting. It made everything cool and wonderful.

My sister in law is, apparently on her way to Charleston now so today must be check out day for Mom.

The Mariners played extra innings last night and actually won! It would be nice to have a winning season but it is clear that we apparently missed the application cutoff for that. But, it is also fun to watch all the kids come up from the minor leagues and get to play. Last night a kid pitched his first major league baseball game. He pitched 8 fine innings. His family was in the stands and it was just neat.

I used to be a season ticket holder for the Charlotte O's (AA team for Baltimore). I caught a number of minor league games in Minnesota and I had season tickets to the San Jose Giants (A team for San Francisco). There is something just fun about minor league baseball. The kids are so unaffected and hopeful and fun. The games are often full of surprises - miraculous plays and disastrous fuckups. And then there are the ball carrying pigs and Used Car Night and Grocery Give Away Night... It's just fun.

We have two minor league teams relatively near here. They both provide good fun but neither is particularly easy to get to so I only go rarely. Plus, I need to keep an eye on the Mariners. But, this year the Mariners are giving me all of it in one bundle!

I tore up the house last night looking for a Netflix DVD that I needed to mail back. I live in dread fear of losing those things and I try hard to always bring them in from the mail and put them right away on top of the player. When I finish one, I grab it, right away and put it into its mailer and with my keys so I will remember to put it into the mail the next day. I never remembered mailing this one back.

This morning I checked Netflix to see exactly which one was missing (I thought it was 6 Feet #3 but I wasn't sure) and ... turns out they received it this morning. Well, that clears up that mystery...

Today is my early day - early in and early out. I'm hoping to reserve some General Tso's chicken for dinner and I need to stop off at the post office and mail my Mom's socks.

They haven't lost 81 games yet, so it's still theoretically possible.

We've certainly had fun the couple of times we've made it down to RI to watch the Pawtucket Red Sox (universally referred to as the PawSox). I hear that the Lowell Spinners (single-A) are great fun too, but it's a tough ticket.

Our minor league team, The Sandgnats (oh so, appropriately named), play in the stadium in the park right across the street from our house. We have a great view of it...and the fireworks that they shoot off all along. One of these days, we are actually going to drag ourselves over there for a game! (I think they were the worst team in their league last year...).

Oh, man... the Sandgnats??? That's wild. You must go. The great thing about minor league ball is that winning and losing are way way way down on the List of Important Stuff.
