It's another hot weekend. It was cloudy some of yesterday and I thought I'd wander up to Occidental park and check on the outdoor market they are having every weekend. But by the time I got downstairs and on the street, the sun was out hot and unrelenting and I just bagged it.

The Yankees are in town and in very Yankee like fashion, they are killing us. That's right. Take a team that is already totally demoralized by the crappiest season and kick the shit out of them. Welcome to Seattle and thank you. Now, get the fuck out of there, plz.

I've been watching Bob and Rose - it's a BBC 6-episode series from some of the people who started Queer as Folk. I've watched 4 of the episodes so far. It's interesting with several moments of great fun.

Dana has given up on the computer. I'm not sure what the problem is but she, apparently, can no longer figure out how to get to her email on Mom's computer any more and is not interested in finding out. I VPN'd last night and brought up the website she uses for email and left it on the screen so that, maybe, she could see that it really does still work. This morning, it was gone and replaced by Mom's OutlookExpress that had the mail from yesterday still unread.

So I'm not getting the first hand reports. But, that's ok. The last second hand report I got was bad enough.

Mom fell last night walking to the bedroom. She's bruised but ok. My brother says her story of why she fell changes with each telling. She tripped on the oxygen cord, she got dizzy or she had too much in her hands. Dana smartly made her stay right on the floor until the emergency people (from the home) could get there and check her out. They said she was ok, but the real smart money was letting them know. Since they will take over her care tomorrow, it's important that they know that walking short distances is perilous.

I talked to Mom myself yesterday. She sounded fine but tired. Dana says she can not hold on to anything heavier than a pencil is too shaky to do anything with the pencil - mainly due to the medication. Mom didn't sound unhappy, particularly but I didn't get the feeling she was in the good spirits she has been recently. She could bounce back from this, but honestly I don't think she will. I think she's just taking her time saying goodbye in her own way. And I'm so glad that she is in a place where she can do that safely and with relative comfort.

Today I'm planning to polish off the rest of Bob and Rose, watch the Yankees steam roller the Mariners again, do the laundry and try to stay cool. That's the plan.

Think of it this way - if the Mariners win even one game, you will have grounds for rejoicing. Look on the bright side.

In fact, Mariners fans have it easy for the rest of the season. You have no expectations, so any time they win it's a pleasant surprise, and if they don't, well, it doesn't matter anyway. Whereas a certain New England team keeps teasing us with brief winning streaks followed by the standard win-one, lose-one that keeps them just hanging on in the wildcard race.

Well, yes, of course. It was the strangest sensation earlier this week to actually want the Yankees to win so that Texas would lose.

And now the Indians are making me crazy. Who needed this?

so any time they win it's a pleasant surprise

As, for example, today.

well I hope for your sake it doesn't take the Mariners as long to get back to winning way as it has the Red & Pirates after their teams fell apart.

She could bounce back from this, but honestly I don't think she will.

She could still surprise you. My mother (83 at the time) was in pretty bad shape about 2½ years ago after emergency surgery had left her very weak and depressed. But she made it back to moderately good health (although she never recovered her previous strength completely).

But if not, well, as you say, at least she's in good hands and in a place that can keep her as comfortable as possible.

Thinking good thoughts for you and her.
