On the way to the gym this morning, I took my garbage down to the dumpster in the garage. Also in the garage is the closet where packages are all delivered and secured until the unit owners can pick them up. The FedEx guy was just walking in with a delivery.

I've been watching an order on the tracking system and knew that it hit Seattle on Saturday and since this is the arm of FedEx that does not deliver on Mondays, I knew it would arrive today (FedEx's delivery dates, I have found, are fairly fictional).

So I walked over to him, spied my package and said 'Oh, you have one for me! That little one. Susan Dennis.' I reached for it and he snatched it away from me.

FE: I can't deliver that one until I deliver this urgent one. And it has to be signed for. And the manager isn't here to sign so I'll have to deliver yours at 10:30. (This was about 8:30.)
Me: huh?
FE: I can't deliver this one now. (Mine, the one he had in his hand.) Because this other one is priority and it has to be delivered first and I can't do that without a signature. Do you know where the Boss is? (building manager, I assume)

I made a split second decision... I could have wrestled him for the package. He was smallish and not expecting the fat old lady to take him down. Or I could have taken him down verbally - a losing proposition if there ever was one.

So I said "I don't know where he is." and I walked away.

When I got back, Scott, the building manager was out in front with the delivery of some new appliances. I told him the story and he laughed and said my package was waiting in the closet.

But, I did snag a nice bit of building gossip. The woman who was the girlfriend of my real estate agent 18 years ago finally sold her unit. She was a thorn in the HOA's side because she rarely paid her dues on time and they had to put a lien on her property more than once. She sold her unit to the newly transferred in from the east coast head of security for Seatac. A woman. Who has a great commute from here - out the door, across the parking lot, onto to the light rail and boom, she's at work! Cool. And she has some nice looking new appliances.
