And I am once again confronted by the cliché: why is it that I can remember every single word to Angel Baby (Rosie and the Originals) and haven't a clue what I did with the stack of tax stuff that I had out not 1 hour ago... It's not on the desk and it's not in the 'for taxes' folder...

That would be because your brain processes music in a different area than it does regular memory. It's why people who stutter can sing.
