After some Windows update, you have to reboot. 4 times now on 2 different computers, after I reboot, Windows comes back and builds me a new desktop like an entirely new account, completely ignoring the one I want. On my personal computer, the first time it was scary and then after that, it's more wtf.

It just happened on my work computer and that is a true heart attack moment. I had visions of redoing what I just spent about 30 hours doing.

Before I rolled back, this time, however, I rebooted again and it came back. But, shit, does it have to scare me like that???

When I was doing the 5687 Windows updates required for the new OS on Friday, I totally forgot about the 4876 ones that 'check for updates managed by your system administrator'. First batch of 19 done and it's now installing the next 20.

I have more patience than most, I think, for computer os/software/hardware hijinks but this is really pushing the limit... I need to call help desk about the VPN error but it's really a waste of time to do that until the updates check runs clean.

I'm not entirely clear on how old I'll be when that happens.
