One of the people from Mom's 'home' just called to tell me that she cannot have high speed internet access in her new room. They just discovered the building is too old and not wired. Wow. Amazing.

A month ago I said to the person in charge that a key factor in ensuring that Mom did not get depressed about her new room and the isolation it would bring would be her internet access. I actually repeated that several times to several people all of whom agreed with me and promised her cable access would be available in her new room.

None of those people, apparently, looked into whether or not that part of the building even had internet access or thought to ask or even think about making yet another promise to me and breaking it. Those fuckwads, instead, chose to wait until we hired Comcast to come out and install it to learn that their building makes it impossible.

In case you have lost count, this makes the 479th thing they have fucked up.

Oh and until they rewire the building, cable internet access will not be possible. And, because they have the most convoluted ridiculous phone system on the face of the earth, DSL ain't an option either.

I am so not happy. Yes, I can buy her a modem. Yes, we can get a second convoluted ridiculous phone line in and pay for that. Yes, I can get my brother to install the modem and make sure the phone line works when next he can get there (at the end of October). Yes, I can get her a new account with a dial up ISP. Yes, we can show her how to use the new account and hope she gets comfortable with it. Yes, we can cancel her Comcast Internet account.

And we will. But at least this part of 'we' is going to stay a little furious for a little bit longer, thank you.

Due to a combination of forgetting to wear my estrogen patch and the stupidity of these people, I am so angry I want to go down there and kick their asses.

How incompetent. I am sad for your Mom and for you.

But mostly I am angry.

a festuche of epic proportions

I'm sorry to hear it's gotten so complicated. You'd think that something marked as so important would have gotten more attention. :( don't they have a location that does have access?

The way you word this makes me think that there is cable internet in some other part of the building. If that's so, is it possible to arrange for wireless internet to the part of the building that is lacking access?

i was thinking the same thing ... the right access point and the right antenna can do wonders.

Would it be possible to get satellite internet service there? It would cost more than cable or DSL, but would be a heck of a lot better than dial-up.

I feel for you and your mom. Having just had to go back to dial up. I don't wish it on anyone
