What a day
Oct. 15th, 2004 07:31 pmHere's something you might not know: If I get on the bus at my normal Friday time of about 2:30, I generally get to the library (my usual Friday stop) about 3 or a little earlier. If I get on the bus at 4:45 like I did today, I get to the library at 5:45. Interesting, eh?
Fuck. And that was just one of the highlights.
I spent a lot of time on the phone with Mom, with Dana, with the guy at Shurguard Storage in Charleston, with the pharmacy woman there at the home, with the trust officer who pays Mom's bills and has no clue why her Visa card expired 2 months ago and no one noticed until today.
Oh and with the phone lady. Yes, we have a second phone line installled for the computer. She called me this morning and wanted to know if I'd be willing to wait a week or two because they were converting phone systems and it would be easier to do after all the conversion was over. In as nice and sweet and kind a voice as I could muster I told her NO FUCKING WAY. I wanted that damn phone line in ASAP... Thank you very much. It was installed, tested and ready within 2 hours.
Dana is trying to help Mom but, honestly, she's a bigger handful than Mom. She has not got a whole lot of sense and is very judicious with how she uses it. And, since she drove all the way up there from Jacksonville to help Mom, Mom can just operate on Dana's schedule, thanks a lot. I hate to rag on her ass since she really is so nice to come help and it's not even her mother. She'll be gone on Sunday. And Polly understands the problem and suggested tonight that she give Dana a list of stuff to do tomorrow that does not involved Mom. Good plan.
Safeway is scheduled to come deliver groceries between 6 and 8 so I had to haul ass to get home by 6. Just as I was turning the corner at my block, Polly called. But, it was good to hear a rational voice. She talks too much but she is such a godsend that I cannot complain. Plus, she's about had it with Bill and Nancy and Dana and all their vulture activities. Heheheheheh Tonight she asked me if she could just say 'no'. And I said yes. Tell Dana that if it was not on Bill's list, she can't have it. Tell Nancy that Grandma's china (which is really just department store dinner ware anyway and she (Nancy) has more kitchen shit than she will ever use anyway) was given away years ago. Etc. Etc. I think she's got it all under control.
I talked to Mom briefly today a couple of times and she sounded really tired, but pretty happy. She found out today that they will make her bed every morning and turn it down for her at night. She thought this was hot shit.
Needless to say, plan to get home early to set up the wireless thing before the ISP left for the weekend, didn't happen. But, while I was waiting for Safeway, I figured, what the heck? If I fucked it up, I could always revert. The router came with a little quick start card and that's all it took. I mean really. It was set up and working in no time at all. I can't quite figure out the best way to secure it so if you want free wireless, come on by the 'hood tonight.
Tomorrow I'll try adding TIVO to the wireless mix.
Safeway as 36 minutes left in their window and as I typed that, the Safeway guy rolled his stuff up to the front door which I am monitoring on my TV. Yahoo! Diet Dr. Pepper is in the house. And it's Friday. And I don't have to do this day again!
