It's a quiet Sunday morning here because the fucking NPR Begging Show continues so I had to turn it off at 7.

Mom is good. Dana and Polly were up in her apartment cleaning out stuff and working hard. Mom was down in her new room resting and making the occasional decision. She actually did get Comcast out there yesterday! The guy - "Richie... He was so nice!" - unhooked her TIVO and reset her line and she has a picture that she says is way better than she had in the apartment. I'll hook the TIVO back up when I go back at Thanksgiving. She did say that while the picture is good, the baseball sucks. I suggested that Richie might be a Yankees fan and she said she did not think of that. "Maybe I should have waited to call Comcast until Monday." Hmmm

And she decided not to decide about the car until after Thanksgiving. "I'm pretty sure I don't need it, but I want to be real sure before I give it up." Good decision, I say. She seems to get more clear in her thoughts every day.

I downloaded the new Google Desktop Search yesterday and I have to say that it's pretty cool. It finally finished building an index last night and it does a good job of finding stuff and it's so fast.

I got a fun note in the guest map on my website yesterday - from London, Ontario. I'm sure it must be from the same person who sent the email last week "I love the puzzles they make my day at work go so much faster waiting for calls. I work in and inbound call centre doing tech suppport. Many of my collegues and I run mini competitions using the puzzles posted on your site. TY for the wonderful site."

It's raining here this morning - a nice, gentle Seattle rain. I think I'm going to take a walk along the waterfront as soon as it gets light enough. Then it's laundry and TV and the usual Sunday fare.

The Google Desktop Search creeps me out a bit... because it does send your "non-personally identifiable" search terms up to Google... for them to target ads at you. I don't need more targeted ads in my life.

I like Lookout instead, it's very fast as well: http://www.lookoutsoft.com/, though its integration comes through Outlook and not a web browser.

I've always liked little utilities. Maybe I'll make a post about a few. I just come across them from time to time. The Cool Stuff alias at MS is a good source.

Two others I like:
- MSIE resizer. This adds context menu items for resizing Internet Explorer windows to common sizes like 640 by 480 and 1024 by 768. Handy for web page design. http://www.marmot.net/danm/2004/10/17/msiesizer.js
- Command Prompt and Fast Edit. Adds context menu items in Windows Explorer. Fast Edit is particularly handy, as it'll open any selected file in Notepad rather than its default editor.

Download both files to your PC, open them in notepad to see that they're not nasty, then double click them to run them.

I love Google, didn't know a new one was out.

I will go there right now!! Thanks for keeping me informed.

Also, you are getting a new notebook, I think. I am jealous. Is this one better than a Dell, or is there a reason for this particular one? I will just have to lust after yours for a while, this move and my "part time" are eating up our money.

(Even though I set aside almost enough for a new laptop in my stash)

Happy Sunday!!

My ISP is a local one here in Florida. DFSI, but probably won't do you any good.

I am sorry she has to go back to dial-up. Hell, I'm really sorry I had to go back. Wish I could be more help.

People seem to have good luck with Earthlink.

I am just waiting for our Brighthouse Cable to get with high speed, They got set behind with all the repairs for Hurrican Ivan.
