I'm guessing that it's about 16 weeks before the next baseball game and that will be a Spring training game at best. I always suffer from baseball withdrawal and this year is no different. Last night was tough and I am going to have to be doing schedule manipulation this weekend so I don't have these big voids of time where 9 innings should go.

I have to pay a $7,300 special assessment to the condo association next week. On the one hand I am so very grateful that I don' t have to pay $7,300 AND assess the work, find the workers, supervise, put up with the hassle of workers and then make sure they do it right. I am grateful for that. It's one of the many joys of living in a condo. It's hard to cough up the $7,300 but it could be so much harder with all that other crap.
And this work is being done on the decks of the 5th floor units. The building itself started out a 100 years ago as a railroad warehouse. It's got amazing 18" square timbers that you can see in the garage. Hard to imagine those trees. But anyway. There is an underground level of parking, a ground level of parking and then 3 levels of condos. The 5th floor is made up of units that were built on the roof. They are relatively new construction (1991) and they and their occupants have been trouble from the getgo.
My $7,300 is going towards some kind of deck (which is actually my ceiling) work up there. I'm pretty sure the 5th floor units will need to be tented for a while - hehehehe. Serves those snotties right.
So, while $7,300 is a serious chunk of change for moi and not one I fork over lightly, it could be worse. I could be stuck messing with the work and living in a plastic bubble in ADDITION to paying the bucks.

Another advantage of living in my building is no Halloween. I don't have to buy candy and answer the door and that makes me very happy. I am not above, however, enjoying the heck out of all this candy floating around the office today.

It dawned on me last night that my window of opportunity for making a quick Costco run before the Christmas rush is rapidly closing shut. The only thing currently on my Costco list is tall kitchen bags. I know if I go to Costco to get tall kitchen bags they will cost me $100. So I think I'm going to by pass those savings and, if I actually run out before January, I'll buy the high priced ones at Albertson's. Way to save $!!

Both cats have developed a severe case of cuddle-fever with the onset of cold weather this year. My lap is ample. It is, but, it falls short of the real estate necessary to handle two cats, one mini laptop and my knitting. Last night Jake carved tracks in my arms in his attempt to hold on to his piece of my lap. I may just do some living room rearranging this weekend and swap the couch and chair. Time for something different and the couch might give me a fighting chance.

Date: 2004-10-29 02:44 pm (UTC)I've had him for almost 11 years, and he has never wanted to join me at my chair here at my PC. He is very cuddly on the bed and couch, but usually sleeps on my ottoman while I am at the PC.
Just this week, I've been coming back to sit down from another room, and there is Alex, all cozy on the seat of my chair with a "What, it's mine!" expression.
So, now if I get up...I place one of those plastic grocery bags on the seat. He hates them and the sound they make.
Keeps him off this chair, anyway. ;)
