Why do you like Seattle so much?

Because at my bus stop - which is just between Chinatown and the sports stadiums - in the pitch dark of the very early morning, there is a new regular. He's black and big and kind of scarey looking. He gets to the stop just after I do and puts his backpack down on the bus stop bench and digs out his boom box. It's a small boom box but it's a boom box. He puts it on top of the pack and turns it on, volume high.

And all of us there at the bus stop get to hear Morning Edition on NPR.

I kid you not.
