What's with Saturday?
Nov. 6th, 2004 07:30 amThis morning I had a very long and very frustrating call with Mom. Sometimes she just makes no sense. She's very big on pronouns. She'll start a thought with 'he said xxxx' and give me not the first clue who 'he' is. She can't bring up words for some things so it's very hard to follow what she means even if it makes sense which generally it does not. And sometimes - like today - she just gets hit with an attack of verbal diarrhea.
I got off the phone totally frustrated and really dreading the upcoming visit and then I realized that the last time I talked to her on a Saturday, it was equally unsatisfactory and frustrating. The other days are fine but Saturdays just suck telephone call wise. Now that I understand the pattern, I can be ready next Saturday.
On the up side, she did say that we are likely going back to Magnolias for Thanksgiving. It's a wonderful restaurant with heavenly food. Mom always wants turkey for Thanksgiving. I just want good food. Magnolias gives us both. We've gone there the past two years but last year she wasn't as thrilled with her meal so I was worried that it was off the list. It is - like lots of Charleston - not very easy to get into (stairs) and maneuver in (narrow hall and more stairs). I'm not at all sure how Mom is going to manage but Polly is going with us so between the two of us, I suspect we can get her in there and out.
I think a nice walk down by the waterfront is in order. Back later...

Saturdays . .
Date: 2004-11-06 09:47 am (UTC)Saturday phone calls and Mom . . I can relate a bit. My week is packed so full of "routine" . . details, processes, procedures and rote . . that, on Saturday, it seems to sense the onset of "unstructured time"! That signals the beginning of cutting loose and flying free; it's hard for me to center on any one thing on Saturday. I've learned to avoid serious discussions, business phone calls and anything else that takes concentration or coherent thought! By Sunday, I'm back into "getting mentally prepared for the week" mode and things settle down! WHEW!
For THIS "focusless" Saturday morning, I'm headed out to Seattle Pottery Supply (on S. Hanford) . . I'll be flyin' past in about 30 minutes - so hang out the window and WAVE!!
