It has never failed to amaze me how many people buy condos in this building and fail to notice that it is in the middle of a very urban environment. Sure, The Tree That I Hate does obscure my view but 1) not everyone has a tree obscuring their view and 2) there are other clues.

The one that really cracks me up is the fire engines. We live about 3 blocks from one fire station and 4 blocks from another. Fire engines tend to use their sirens. This, apparently, is shocking news to many. More than once, over the nearly 20 years I've lived here, we've had owners formally request that the condo association file a noise complaint with the fire department. (I've always wondered if they minded the sirens when they have, on occasion, used them to respond to a call in this building.)

When I bought this condo in January of 1992, on the books with the city were plans to build out residental/retail space in the parking lot outside my terrace. I know this because the guy I was dating at the time who was violently opposed to my buying this condo, brought me a set of the plans as one of his many reasons why my buying it was such a horrible idea.

So no one - no one at all - should be surprised or annoyed or outraged or threatening now that they are actually moving forward. But, of course, they are. They did some pile driving tests a few months ago that involved a few hours of banging. And now they are getting ready to do more pile driving tests. That they have to do so much testing and retesting might be considered a situation, the fat that there is noise in the city should not be shock.

Scott (the building manager) told me today that he had already had 5 people file formal complaints against the noise (which has not started yet) and 4 have said they can't live here under these circumstances.

You just gotta wonder what part of center city did they miss when they made their purchase decision?
