I just got a note from my Kiwi friends who are now in Vancouver saying that they cannot buy books for the Kindle because their credit card is from NZ??!!! I thought we had researched that pretty thoroughly. Actually, the Nook got taken off the purchase list because we found various web pages that indicated you could not purchase books outside of the US but you could for the Kindle.

That just bites it. Can't we all just get along?

Work is particularly dreary today. Usually, I appreciate the rosey the riviter-ness of my job but today it's just tedious. I have two 3 hour jobs up next building the same set of pages - one in Czech and one in Russian. I'm doing the Czech ones first cause the Russian ones are more more interesting to look at and i need incentive.

CES opened up registration today and I got 'er done. I'm a CES Alum. Love that. Southwest is still not acknowledging that January will, in fact, come so no plane tickets yet. But, there is some time.

[livejournal.com profile] machupicchu was planning on coming with but decided today to bag it and instead proposed a Canadian Winter Wonderland trip to Calgary or Edmonton when the snow is falling. Perfection.

My neighbors, Ann and Ron get back tonight from Italy. I feel like they have been there forever. Travis is going to have a fit when he finally gets to see Ron again. They have a massive bromance.

I need to go down and open up their terrace door and air out the place a bit. And turn on the A/C if it's too bad.

It just dawned on me that I have never received a bill from the doctor for removing the cysts on my head last May. I got the explanation of benefits saying I owed $700. And I got reimbursed for $200 of that from my supplemental benefits. But, I never got a bill for the $700. At least not yet.

For years after I left Microsoft's employment, I paid dues to be a member of their alumni group. The only reason I did this was to be able to buy Microsoft stuff at employee prices (about a 90% reduction from street price). For years I maxed out my limit ($500 I think, then they raised it). And then there was no software I really wanted and the membership dues of $130 became all of a sudden not such a deal.

Today I got an email that the dues are now $99. But, you know what? There's not a single piece of software or hardware that I even want now. All of my computers have operating systems. I have a copy of Office installed on one of them but rarely use it. I don't have an xBox.

So, thanks for the offer, but no thanks.

I am so not invested in the All Star game this year. I am enjoying the break from losing baseball games.

Back to work. Czechoslovakia awaits! (Yeah I know that's a couple of decades old but it's such a nicer sound and way more tongue fun than The Czech Republic.)
