I have about 20 vinyl albums left and no turn table or record player. Today I hunted around for a place that would take at least some of them and turn them into MP3's. They have been out of print since forever and won't ever be released on CD.  The first place I found mainly turns your CD's into MP3's.  (Thanks, I can do that myself.)  But they offered vinyl record and cassette tape conversions, too.  So I requested a quote.  It just came in.

$29.95 per album or $3.95 per cut and shipping is extra.

Me thinks that's a bit steep for the work involved.  I think I'll look elsewhere.

I've done that. That's the only way I'm able to listen to my Pac-Man Fever album.

I bought a turntable for a couple of hundred bucks - a really good one. Then I got a connector for my computer. Software that does the job is available on the internet. It's not difficult - just takes a little time. And you must make sure your records are as clean as is humanly possible.

off the record.....so to speak

download winmx from http://www.winmx.com and then recreate each album by downloading the MP3s.

winmx works pretty good and usually you can find some rare items there

by the way the downloading of music is strictly for ammusement purposes only and once you have all the cds made you should listen to them and see if you want to buy more music from the artists involved,

have fun

About a year ago, my father and I decided to copy our respective record collections to cd.

We hunted around for someone to do it for us, then, when that proved to be too expensive an option, I pulled out my turntable and started transferring them to my computer.

I found though, that a large number of our records had deteriorated a fair bit, and it was a bit of a hassle tinkering with settings and breaking up albums into seperate tracks.

In the end, I downloaded as many of the songs as I could as mp3s via a number of different file sharing networks - they all seem to be good for different things/styles- and ONE of these days, I'll finish transfering the few that are left myself- it really isn't that difficult, I'm just lazy.

At such prices you could afford to buy a turntable, convert your records, and then give away the turntable. And maybe you could borrow one.
