I am a slut for free shipping
Nov. 9th, 2004 08:09 amThere is no good reason for it. I know better. I am smart and savvy. But, I swear to god, offer me free shipping and my wallet just flaps open and the money just flies out.
I have visions of the marketing meetings at my favorite yarn supplier's...
"Hmmm, it seems that Susan Dennis has not purchased quite the obscene amount of yarn that we had her projected for this year. We need to fix that... Ideas? Anyone? Anyone?
Ah, yes, the old standby... Free shipping. I'm sure that will work. Ok, let's send out an email. I'm now taking bets - let's go $10 on meantime between hitting 'send' on the email and her order coming in.... People, people!! Come on now.... We'll go for 5 minute increments and the first hour is now gone."
I have good yarn for about 4 more afghans already sitting in the living room. Should I run through that, I have crappy yarn stashed throughout the house that could be made into afghans. Does this stop me???? Heck no! There's a new color in my favorite yarn - grape. Plus, I banged up my favorite needles so I need another set.
Whoever had their money on 7 hours and 25 minutes took the pot. Time zone diff plus they sent the note after I went to bed.

Date: 2004-11-09 04:28 pm (UTC)ugh. I am so bad about the shipping thing that I will buy stuff I wouldn't normally buy just because the shipping is free and there is no sales tax.
and even when it isn't free - I'm so shipping obsessed that I will place everything in my cart that I NEED, then check the shipping rate. Then I hit the continue shopping and keep adding an item at a time and keep checking to see if the shipping goes up. When it jumps the barrier to the next "size-up", I back off that item and lower the weight slightly until I either can't add anymore or I fill it up with smaller things. This usually works if the price is based on UPS or FDEX weight ranges. For example, you pay the same price if you ship 10 pounds or 15 pounds but if you go to 16-20, the price rises (not saying this example is true - just to illustrate how retarded I am when it comes to shipping).
And the saddest part of all is that I will spend two hours doing this to save $2.50. Pretty crappy wages. :)

Date: 2004-11-10 06:19 am (UTC)Lol....the old pre-thanking-leave them confused ploy didn't work eh?
Well, if not for me, then at least leave one in the Will for my cabin. Poor ol' thing dearly needs an afghan.
Was that pitiful and shameless enough? If not I can be even more pitiful and shameless.....honest I can!

Date: 2004-11-11 02:04 pm (UTC)I had no clue how much "a yard" was until the dump truck rolled up, had me sign a waiver (about driveway cracking) and deposited an impressive mound on my driveway. It took me five hours to clear, but raised the average ground level on my postage-stamp lot about 4".
BUT -- it was cheap. I won't need to remulch until 2011.
