Irene is making me hungry

I'm enjoying my Sunday morning ritual... NPR, coffee, computer in bed with Travis. I'm all caught up on LJ and Google+ and all my Google Reader feeds have been read. Whew.

Between the radio and the computer, listening to Irene reports is causing me "This is your life" moments. I spent many years living or visiting in many places along the path of Irene.

Just now I saw an entry on Google+ that there was lots of damage in Maplewood, NJ and they had no power.

When I was in college, my roommate was from Maplewood, NJ. Kristi Jacobs. Her folks owned and ran a German delicatessen there. Her family was so very different from mine and it was so interesting to go there. And the food that came out of that deli was just amazing.

When we would leave to go back to school, they would fill up the car with delicious delights. Kristi always made sure that they added tongue to any sandwiches. We loved tongue in sandwiches but mainly it was so when we got back to school and the hoards landed on the sandwich trays, she could could call out 'warning! those sandwiches have tongue in them!' Most of the hoards would back off with a loud 'ewwwww'... there were plenty of sandwiches left for us.

I wonder whatever happened to Kristi, her family and that delicious deli...

This morning's adventures will include breakfast... and a stop at Archie McFee's and I need to drop something off at the library before they close for a week.

But first a shower...
