It's Friday. I leave for South Carolina tomorrow. I'm not really looking forward to the trip but things are falling into place nicely so I guess it's time for me to change my attitude about it.

I got a big boost just now. Mom has had a Bank of America Visa since forever and, I learned not long ago, has been paying 90 FUCKING dollars a year for it! The world is littered with free Visa cards and she is paying $90 a year. She said it was so she could collect frequent flyer miles on US Air. She ain't going anywhere ever again and probably US Air isn't either. So I ordered up a new Visa at the little bank where her checking account is. It's a local bank that also has her trust account and is connected to her broker.

Yesterday she got her new Visa card and all she wanted to know this morning was if she would be able to see her bill online like she used to. Of course, her computer isn't online at all but if I get that going then I thought - crap. This little bank ain't goin' be offering online anything. I have seen their 'online checking account' - it is so convoluted that you practically have to give a blood sample to see your balance.

So when I got home tonight I started digging around and turns out viewing her new Visa online could not be easier! Way easier than BofA and her checking account. WHEW.

Work was good, too. I got everything on my list of Do This Stuff Before You Leave done. I left my desk about 2 and a half hours ago. I just made one quick check of work email to make sure the place didn't crumble the minute I walked out the door and there were two emails, both of which were total nothing burgers. So I am no on vacation for a week.

My flight leaves tomorrow night and I suspect I'll head on out to the airport about 7 or 8ish. So between now and then I need to:

  • Check in and get boarding pass
  • Clean up the house
  • Organize my bag (it's really only a big purse since my suitcase is already there)
  • Update Mom's investments online in case she gets on - she'll want to see them
  • Update my book review website
  • Add the latest puzzles
  • Wash clothes
  • Figure out what to wear on the plane
  • Reboot this computer to update the virus protection

There is probably more that should be on that list but that's it for now.
