So far... excellent
Nov. 20th, 2004 08:18 pmI waited about 10 minutes for the bus. It runs about every 30 minutes and I can catch a nearly non-stop to the airport about 2 blocks from my house. 25 mins and $1.25 later, I'm at the airport. And, honestly, I'm about the only one. The Delta guy looked so lonesome I waltzed up and asked if he had any emergency row seats - leg room and no kids - I scored!
My flight leaves out of the new terminal. I had not been in here before and it is swank. Empty, but swank. I thought you had to turn on your computers for the security guys, but even though there were about 12 of them and 1 of me, they were not at all interested. One guy did like my shoes (I'm sporting the red crocks.)
I got to see all of the new terminal which is really long - in fact, I walked so far that I think I may be about a block from my house.
Found a nice bench where I can put my feet up and have something to lean against at the same time. And... it's right next to an electrical plug!
And if that weren't enough, I fired up the mini and it found a free, open wireless network!! Thank you T-Mobile (which is what it's labeled as).
The only negative is that they are getting me ready for the hot weather of South Carolina. It's a sauna in here.
I guess I'm going to have to set up an email notification list for my puzzles. The last few times I've added new ones, I get a thank you note immediately from several different people. I got three tonight and one poor woman says she looks for new ones every day.

Date: 2004-11-21 03:23 pm (UTC)I had the same experience as SD in that when I was traveling regularly, I became ruthlessly efficient in packing, maneuvering through airports and hotels, knowing which hotels and restaurants were good. And hoarding airline frequent flyer chits. I learned Creative Expense Reporting 101 from the sales people I worked with.
Europe always offered the biggest boondoggle potential, though the trips were infrequent and unpredictable. On one trip, I found an excuse to visit our Den Haag office, scoring two days in Amsterdam then, on the way back, stopped to visit a customer (and some friends) in Austin. On another, I did a weekend stopover in Copenhagen.
What eventually wore me down was a set of one-day seminars my company was hosting: Fly to Minneapolis on Sunday, do the gig, plane to Boston Monday night. If it's Tuesday night, it must mean Raleigh. Wednesday to Chicago. Thursday Nashville, etc. During one of those trips, I woke up in my hotel room, panicked because I wasn't sure where I was or what day it was. I knew it was time to give it up.
