Kindle is a keeper
Oct. 3rd, 2011 04:41 pmFirst of all... the packaging. it comes in a regular Amazon brown box. A little higher quality than the regular corrugated cardboard but still a brown Amazon box. There's a box zipper on one end so I unzip it and open the lid and there's the Kindle. Not one smidgen of unnecessary packaging. None. Very impressive. There's a card tucked in the lid that shows where the power button is.
I turned it on and it was all set up for me. Specifically me. (I briefly had a Nook that was NOT set up for me or anyone else. My neighbor, Ann, had to take hers to Barnes and Noble to get it set up and even then she had trouble.) Oh - and this is a biggie for me - it came nearly all charged up!!
I found my books. I ordered the 14 day Seattle Times subscription. I'm going to try it for the 14 days an then try the NYT for 14 days and see who wins. The Seattle paper is cheaper but then...
I read the little how to manual which popped up right away. I plugged into the computer to finish charging it and followed the easy (and clear) instructions for adding documents (added my car manual) and for using while charging. I already know how to get library books onto it.
It's the perfect size and weight for me. Just exactly what I wanted. I'm still not a fan on the e-ink but, I can deal.
I am one happy camper.
