No chef today (that was yesterday). No house cleaner today (that's tomorrow). Work caught up for now. Appraiser will be here in an hour.

The appraiser guy said the appraisal will take 45 minutes. I'm not at all sure what he's going to be doing in here for 45 minutes. We're talking 1,300 square feet that is pretty loftlike- I mean you can mostly see all of it from one spot. Oh well. Since the mortgage will be for about 30% of what the tax value of the place is, I cannot imagine that the appraisal is going to affect it one way or another.

I bought this place in January of 1992 for $167,000. The guy I was dating at the time allowed as how I should just take the cash and burn it as putting that much money into this neighborhood was just throwing it away. I'm pretty sure my realtor agreed with him. I loved the place. I loved the location. I didn't know anything about Seattle having seen it for the first time two weeks earlier, but I knew I wanted to live downtown and this spot just seemed right.

Since my job had me in a new area code (actually new time zone) every 18 months, and paid for closing costs, I'd bought and sold real estate before - several times - and rarely wisely. Taking a real estate hit financially didn't scare me. I'd done it before and lived to tell about it.

So while the two of them commiserated over what a disastrous decision this was, I signed the papers. I never saw the realtor again and shortly thereafter the boyfriend moved on as well. But me and the condo, we bonded.

I'm guessing the appraisal will come in at about $350. Comparable units to mine have, over the years, been appraised at much higher. At one point - I think around the year 2000 - they were even selling for nearly $500. Now, when one comes up for sale it stays on the market for a while. It will be interesting to see what the number is and it's kind of nice not to have to worry about it.

I'm not selling. That will be my brother's headache after i'm dead.

After the appraiser, there will be swimming.

Then I'm thinking about making a batch of breakfast sandwiches for the freezer. I've got two different ideas in mind. One is to scramble the eggs and the other is to bake them in a muffin tin. I have enough English muffins on hand to actually try both so I just might do that. I made scrambled eggs and toast this morning. It was good but I'm not going to do that every day. I can nuke a premade, that I know so that's my next shot.

And that's the state of SDHQ right now!
