I leapt over a major hurdle at work today - I finally got the latest website production software do do what it is supposed to do. Two things I know...
  1. Never fear going into a configuration file and fiddling.
  2. ALWAYS make sure you have a backup version and replacement scheme in case #1 turns out to be a bad idea.
Nice way to wrap up the week - getting software do behave. Now, if it will just remember today's lesson over the weekend.

I have a special treat tonight. My friend, Kieran and his 'new man' - new only to me since they have been together now for 15 months - have invited me to their new house for dinner! Kieran and I worked together at Microsoft in the late 90's. He was a good buddy but after I left, he left and we only have managed to get together a half dozen times since then.

Last March when David was sending me out for an interview for this job, I thought the last name of the hiring manager (Stephen) was a bit familiar. As soon as I saw his face, I knew it was familiar. Stephen is Kieran's brother! When I knew Kieran, he didn't know Stephen too well. They were raised completely differently and separately. Stephen was raised by his mother with his sisters, mostly in Christchurch, New Zealand. Stephen was raised as an only child by his father in LA. They did not meet until they were in their 20's. They didn't really get close until the last few years.

They look very much alike and have spookily similar body movements. If one of them is walking 20 steps in front of me down a hallway, my guess at which one it is would be as good as anyone's.

Anyway, Stephen says that Alan (New Man) is great and he and Kieran are very good together. Kieran has always been a great cook - so tonight should be fun.

I need to stop on the way to Kieran's and buy bread, milk and cat food.

Remember how, in the olden days, spiffy OS's like PRIMOS and various flavors of VAX/VMS would automatically generate multiple file versions upon editing?

you know ...
