I worried about going to swim class. I worried I wouldn't be able to breathe. A bigger worry was what I sound like - I know some people are really afraid of coughing people. I'm not contagious at all but they don't know that. I'm only moderately successful at trying not to cough.

I figured I'd go early and if horrible, I'd quit. And I'd take it easy.

At first it was a little bad. It was hard to breathe without coughing once I started moving in the pool but it got better. I swear breathing in all that moist air is good for what ails me. Class was not bad at all. No one seemed offended by my coughing and as class went on, the coughing really stopped. I noticed on the way home that I could actually take a deep breath successfully.

I keep trying to repeat the puff test that I failed yesterday. It's my monitor. You take a deep breath and then you blow out as fast and as quickly as you can. Yesterday, it was all I could to to get a good breath without coughing. After the pool, on the way home, I was the puff master! No coughing.

Now - 2 hours later - it's not quite as good but not bad either. I'm getting better. I am. And I do love swimming.
